| "Mother, Child" is an interactive
video installation that intends to create a virtual, shared experience:
the astonishment a mother feels when holding her baby. Thematically the
installation can be seen within the continuum of the "Mother and
Child" compositions. It also addresses the challenge that the contemporary
interactive technology posits on subjective experience and its representation. |

| The installation consists of a video projection
of a nursing child - projected on a piece of white fabric held by the spectator. The point of view from which the child is being seen is the mother´s. The mood of the child seems to depend on the situation in the proximity of the projection. If there is a lot of movement the child becomes restless and starts to cry. The person holding the fabric can gently rock the baby back to sleep. Technical information: The order of digital video sequences is controlled by a video camera and a motion detector system. The system monitors the space around the projection. Interactivity Programming: Juhana Kallio Customized Input Devices: Seppo Väkevä Video: Timo Humaloja Produced in collaboration with UIAH Media Lab: www.mlab.uiah.fi |

Heidi Tikka is a practicing media artist and
researcher at UIAH Media Lab, Finland. In the context of feminist analysis she has inquired into spatialities, distance and representation. Her installations explore visual technologies in the production of embodied and immersive experiences. Currently her research elaborates on the notion of affectivity in interface design and media art. She approaches the topic as a series of boundary breakdowns in inter-subjective as well as subject-object relationships. heidi.tikka@uiah.fi |
