mirror++ is an experimental instrument
and interactive painting. A custom made piece of software analyzes the location of the audience and their movement in detail. This information is used to generate sound and real-time 3D graphics. The piece was inspired by the early work of Myron W. Krueger, David Rokeby and Erkki Kurenniemi. These artists explored how to use video signal as an interaction device. Mirror++ takes the ideas first developed by these artists to new directions making use of the possibilities offered by contemporary technology |
| technical information: mirror++ runs on a 500 MHz pc equipped with a graphics card for real-time 3d rendering and video capturing. A custom software library was developed to analyze movement and turn that information into sound and graphics. The first version of the software was made for Perry Hoberman's TimeTable installation piece (ICC BIENNALE'99 Grand Prix). Later, more features were added and the software was used to create visuals for various concerts and performances. The SurRender3D rendering library is used for all the real-time 3D rendering.
